Selin Öksüz – Biography

1987 – Born into a Turkish musician family in Cologne, Germany

Age 3–6 – Ballet Pre-Course, Cologne
Age 7 – Participant on the Mini Playback Show (RTL)
Age 7–9 – Creative Dance Classes, Cologne
From Age 9 – Weekly Hip-Hop & Street Jazz training, Cologne
Age 12 – Competed at the German Hip-Hop Dance Championship
Age 16 – Began teaching Hip-Hop & Street Jazz (including for the Kinder- und Jugendsportschule NRW)

Community Engagement

  • school spokesperson (Schulsprecherin) for 3 years at my high school (Gymnasium) – representing student interests and facilitating communication between students, teachers, and parents, while organizing school events and initiatives

  • Organizer of “Köln für Frieden”, a peace rally in Cologne featuring speeches, music, art and a diverse crowd — including students, artists, dancers, Muslim and Jewish community members, Kölsch locals, and families — all united for a message of peace and togetherness

  • Volunteer Hip-Hop dance teacher at Fondation d'Auteuil in Paris, offering weekly free dance classes to children living in residential care

    Selin means “flowing water” in Turkish — a name that reflects both my energy and philosophy in movement and life.
